Michael Horsey, CPA, Chairman and CEO of Horsey, Buckner & Heffler (HBH), was named the Philadelphia Inquirer’s 2019 Influencer in Finance as a Minority-Owned Finance Leader. He was honored at a ceremony at the Crystal Tea Room on February 28, 2019.
As a winner, Michael was selected by Inquirer readers and evaluated by expert panel judges who felt he shaped, changed, and transformed the financial industry.
Michael and his partners created the first ever minority-controlled certified public accounting firm, affiliated with a mid-sized accounting and advisory firm, Heffler, Radetich & Saitta (Heffler).
The affiliate agreement between HBH and Heffler affords HBH a larger platform to offer diversity to the firm, its clients, and the marketplace. It’s a unique path that positions HBH to create opportunity for minority businesses in a manner no one else has in the Greater Philadelphia Area, offering the services of a mid-sized firm to minority-owned small businesses that otherwise may not have access to that important thought leadership.
In the short time since launching, HBH has provided immediate operational solutions to municipalities, including rectifying the books for the City of Philadelphia. Michael has more than 40 years of experience in audit, taxation and financial analysis with a focus on serving not-for-profit organizations, state and local government agencies and private clients. Previously, Michael was a Partner of Mitchell & Titus’ Philadelphia office. Prior to that, Michael spent several years at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) and Johnson & Johnson Co.
HBH is a Corporate Partner for the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). Michael is a mentor to young professionals in the industry and works to provide opportunities that position them for success. In addition, he supports educating high school students about the opportunities available in accounting and finance fields.
Michael is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA); the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance and Commerce.
